Soon to be eighteen years old, Eleanor Jolley is a senior here at East
High School, graduating in 2023. Eleanor has lived in Salt Lake City her
entire life and is hoping to move after graduating from East to attend
college out of state. She is undecided on where she wants to go and what
she wants to study but is insistent on the idea of leaving Utah. Eleanor
has been playing competitive soccer since she was eight years old. She
plays on the EHWS team and has just recently celebrated winning first in
the region. As of freshman year, she has also gained a strong interest for
running. Eleanor has always thought of running as a punishment, but now,
from the help of Cross Country, she has learned to love distance running.
Eleanor will always remember the great memories she made during her time
participating in East sports. Between the 6 a.m. runs, hot afternoon
soccer practices and hours spent at track meets, Eleanor will miss every
bit of it. Eleanor has made some of her closest friends through sports.
She strongly recommends joining a team or some sort of club at East. Get
out of your comfort zone and meet new people!!!
Eleanor is also passionate about current world problems, hence why she
loves journalism. She is always trying to advocate for what she thinks is
right. Whether that is participating in marches and protests, or speaking
up about problems at East, she thinks it is very important to be an active
member of her community. This school year, Eleanor is president of
National Honors Society. She is very excited to take on this
responsibility and plan some amazing service activities!
Above everything else, Eleanor loves and deeply values her relationships
with her family. Her younger, and only sister, Katherine, is her best
friend. They are three years apart in age and are inseparable. Like all
sisters, they fight, but despite the petty arguments they share, Eleanor
has always, and will always look up to her little sister. As excited as
she is for college, Eleanor knows that being away from home is going to be
a hard, yet exhilarating journey.
Writing has always been one of Eleanor’s favorite parts about school. As
editor of the school newspaper, she is thrilled to see what interesting
stories her and the journalism team come up with this year. She has
