Anika Hundley is 17 years old and a Junior at East High. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is very determined to return to the east (preferably the east coast) for college. She enjoys painting, cooking, reading, writing, learning, trying new things, being with friends and family, running, dancing, listening to music, philosophy, psychology; the list goes on. She runs cross country here at East and also does ballet outside of school.
This is Anika’s first year doing journalism, but she has always loved writing. She’s excited to explore writing about current issues, news articles, and opinions; a style she hasn’t experimented much with before.
Anika and her family travel regularly and love it, from Little Cottonwood Canyon to Europe. One of her biggest dreams is to live on a sailboat and voyage the ocean for a few months. She’s pretty convinced she will live in many places around the world, and be a sort of la vagabonde for some years of her life (good thing you can write from anywhere)! Anika has been to many of the 50 states at some point- and her favorites so far are Oregon and Maine (but she loves them all). She hopes to continue to travel and experience new cultures, places, and opportunities as well as meet people around the world. Right now she’s saving up to go on a marine conservation service trip this summer.
In her free time, Anika likes to cut out pictures from W Magazine or Vogue and tape them to her walls or make collages. She is very interested in art, writing and editing, graphic design, and fashion and thinks it would be so fun to become a magazine editor/layout designer one day (Very Devil Wears Prada, I know).
Anika loves to learn and loves school (as well as seeing what stylish outfit Miss Nelson is wearing that day).
Anika has many interests and is very undecided on what she wants to pursue. It changes every week, but right now she’s leaning towards marketing and graphic design because she loves being creative (with floristry, travel journalism, an environmental nonprofit on the side, and a goal to open a cute little bakery when she gets older).
Anika is very passionate about ~the power of the written word~ and is excited to improve her writing through journalism this year.
